The Quebec Hydro-Electric Commission, or Hydro-Québec, was incorporated in 1944 and took over the assets of its predecessor Montreal Light, Heat & Power Consolidated at the same time. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Government of the Province of Quebec and is the third largest electric utility in North America.
