Noms:
Puget, Loïsa, 1810-1889, composer.
Titre:
La voix tendre : [romance] / paroles de Gustave Lemoine ; musique de L. Puget.
Description:
Puget’s romance uses an enticing waltz rhythm to depict the allure of an “enchanting voice.” It contains several musical traits associated with the vocal waltz: fanfare opening, triple meter, and a rising and falling melody that mimics swirling physical movements (Parr 2012). The waltz had a significant influence on many forms of music in the nineteenth century, with vocal waltzes appearing in operas such as Gounod’s Faust (1859) and Roméo et Juliette (1867), as well as in French and Viennese operetta.
