MFTP #0016 Sunday 6th[.] Gave the men the prey of Bull[.] In the Evening La Glaçe arrived with 5 Skins of fresh meat[.] Three Montagners who Came from Slave Lake and who return there again went off this Day with a letter to Mr Porter at Lac Claire where they are to pass the Summer as it would prove detrimental to the Company's Interest that they go to Slave Lake to inform the montagners of that Quarter how matters Stand hereabout[.] It must not be neglected to remark here that Perronne this day tried but without Success to Debauch Marten & Piché[.] Martin told him that he was already engaged but Piché more Cunningly Said that his time was now expired and that as he was not very well used by his present employers he would willingly accept a reasonable price else where[.] Perronne asked him how much wages he would ask to which Piché answered 700 livres with several other Perquisites of no great value per year[.] Here Perronne wisely reprimanded him for his folly in exacting so little from Gentlemen who both able and willing to allow a great deal more to a man of Piché's Skull (which he thought when in Council with his Own Skull would form such projects as all the Skulls in the North West Company Could not disconcert) for Said he, with a significant look and after turning his lips Out in the form of a Sow's Snout, Je trouve Piché que vous ete bien fou de demanded si peu de Gages – Car pour un homme de votre Capacité On ne regardera pas 900 livres pour la premiere année et 1000 pour la deuxieme & pour toute autre Chose vous serez traité comme le Bourgeois[.] Je pense que vous allez hiverner ici car C'est le poste le plus dificile[.] Vous aurez un petit Vacher d'Ecosse pour passer l'hivert avec vous – & vous serez comme un Bourgeois[.] Vous verrez Monsr McKenzie cet automne, un grand homme, un bel homme & en meme temp un bon Garçon Sacré dieu[.] Je parlé a lui de vous & de Martin[.] J'etois Sûr de vous avoir Car Je vous Croyois libre Je promis a monsr MacKenzie d'allez au devant de Ses Canots avec un Guide jusquau Fort Cumberland mais il n'y a pas trouvé un mort né Sauvage.
