MFTP #0016 and three young men Cree arrived with two Canoes loaded with provisions[.] They gave a Bustard and a Duck to Perronne who met them at mamaouie[.] As the Montagners were Dinking I could not help giving a phial rum each to the Crees[.] Thursday 3rd[.] A Day Break Cadien Deballais arrived with a letter from Mr Porter at Lac Claire[.] Mr Porter Sent 80lb Dried Meat by him[.] St Germain who had gone after Perronne arrived[.] He went as far as Ponds old fort where he Saw the tracts of the Brochet waiting for Perronne[.] 14 Ps fish were taken today & 15 yesterday[.] The Crees went off[.] They left their meat in order to Come altogether to make a Drinking Match[.] Sent Cadien Deballais off in the night with an Answer to Mr Porter's letter and a keg of wines that he Demanded[.] Gave La Graine, who is invited by the Potties to be made Chief, 4 M Ammn Gratis – & gave each of the other Crees 2 ms each[.] In the Evening the Bougons Byr arrived[.] Friday 4th[.] Bougons Byr went away[.] He left meat to be traded another time for Rum – & had a piece of Tobacco & 2 m Ammn for nothing[.] The 3 Montagners who were encampt on the pointe au Chien went as they promised to pay all their Credits in Meat before they would arrive again[.] I gave each of them 2 Ms Ammn for nothing[.] 25 Ps of fish were taken today[.] Thundered & rained[.] Gave the most of the meat which the Bougon's Byr brought to the Gentlemen's women who cut & dry it – & gave about a member of an Orignal to the Men's women as it was spoiling[.] Saturday 5th[.] About 12 O'Clock Mr Thomson with 3 Canoes loaded with 76 packs arrived from Grand River[.] At the Same time Mr Wentzel and a Cree Boy came from the Grand Marrais for a supply of Goods of which there is a great Scarcity at that place[.] Gave Mr Thomson's Men a Dram and the prey of Pemecan[.] Mr Wentzel killed an Orignal coming down and brought the plat Côtés of it here[.] Sent St Germain to encamp at Mamaoui as Perronnes Men are there fishing I am afraid they will trade with the Crees who arrive daily[.] Piche took took his place at the Pointe au Chien[.] [53] L E G E N D : |
