the Peace River – the former is to build a fort for the beaver Indians between Grand Marrais and Lafleurs fort and the latter is to remain with Brousseault at Grand Marrais[.]

Tuesday 26th[.] This morning Mr James Porter arrived from Slave Lake with three loaded Canoes from Sl[.] Yesterday they left one of their Canoes behind which is not yet arrived and is likely to retard their Departure for Lac La Pluie[.] Soon after Mr Porters arrived The Tete de Lievre arrived from Grand Marrais[.] He traded 5 Geese and the thigh of a Small Orignal[.] Gave him a fathom of Tobacco and Sent another to the Grand Coquin who is at Mamaoui[.] After Tete de Lievre's Departure I was informed that he had traded the most part of an Orignal with the Potties before his arrival here[.] Sent St Germain with his family to remain on the Pointe au Chiens as there is no possibility of guarding the Potties properly while we remain Secure in Our Barracks[.]

Wednesday 27th[.] The Slave Lake Canoe which Stayed behind arrived about 12 O'Clock[.] The Men busy Gumming their Canoes[.] Gave Out the Baggages – and ½ Teaureaux for this day's prey[.]

Thursday 28th[.] All this day it blew So hard that the Canoes Could not go off till towards the Evening which was the time that the wind abated and the set off under Care of L'anneau till they overtake Cadien Le Blanc[.] St Germain informs us that Perronne Sent the Crees who are at Mamaoui 1 Small Keg rum, 2 fathoms of Tobacco, 1 Copper Kettle and a blue Capot as a present[.] The Tete de Lievre's Gendre arrived from Grand Marrais[.] Gave him my short Red Coat which made him Say that he will never forsake me[.] Laviollette Caught about 20 ps: of fish in apiece of a Net[.] Yesterday the Potties set out for the Peace River[.] Perronne stays here with 5 Men[.]

Friday 29th[.] Sent Cadien Deballais & Laviolette in a Small Canoe down to the Bute to bring up a Small or rather a Sauteux Canoe which Mr Porter Saw there on his way here[.] There is no Canoe here now to bring Mr Porter to Lac Claire except an old Good for nothing one which came from Slave Lake[.] This Canoe Sauteux Could they find it will answer the purpose very well[.] Traded two Large
