MFTP #0016 Saturday 9th May Contd that purpose[.] Towards night it thundered & rained – the is stopt before the fort[.] Sunday 10th[.] Messrs Stuart and MacDougall arrived in two Bateaux from the Peace River – at the same time arrived Longville & Waccau with 14 Canoes loaded with 27 Ps each[.] Gave the Prey of Gibiers to the Peace River Men vizt a Goose to each[.] The Men were Settled in their respective Canoes[.] Monday 11th[.] Me James MacDougall set off for the Forks in order to get a Canoe and the Packs of that place made in master Wentzel's absence[.] For this Purpose Mr MacDougall has 8 Men[.] Gave the Men the Prey of Pemican that is a Taureaux between 24 Men and as only the Peace River Men had the Prey there was only two Teareaux spent[.] Gave Nets to some & Ammunition to others in lieu of Prey till the embarkation[.] Eight Men with two Canoes went to Slave Lake[.] They have had provisions and agres as usual[.] Tuesday 12th[.] This Day Marlin had a Large keg of mixt rum to drink with his Relations[.] They promise to go and pass the Summer at the upper end of River d'ecose to make Provisions a thing very much wanted and very Scarce at this place[.] Wednesday 13th[.] Several Crees arrived and traded a few Skins furs[.] Thursday 14th[.] The Ice begins to break up on the Lake[.] Thursday 21st[.] As there were but few persons this Spring at this place able to transact business e have been under the necessity of neglecting the Journal to do things of greater Consequence since the 14th Instant[.] Yesterday Mr James MacDougall who was sent to the Forks to make the Packs in Mr Wentzel's place arrived with St Germain at the same time Mr Wentzel arrived from Wabasca with a Canoe which frisée made loaded with 8 packs – the hunt of the Crees whom he went in search of[.] The 18th the Loaded Canoes Set out for Lac La Pluie[.] Friday 22nd[.] D’os who had been sent to the Forks to make a Canoe arrived[.] He informed us that he left Perronne and Bellegarde in Bustard Island with three loaded Canoes to Oppose us at this place[.] In order to Keep them from building a fort on the [44] L E G E N D : |
