Indians who may pass loaded[.] Sent Bleas to Mamaoui to tell him how necessary it is to keep to his promise[.] La Viollette passed the night behind Perronnes House as I was apprehensive that the Montagners, who were here last & who we are informed have killed two Orignals near hand, might come at night with meat to the Potty[.] He saw nothing[.] Gave the frenchmen the prey of fresh Meat[.] The young men who set off the Day before yesterday for Lac Claire returned as their Guide deserted[.] They wish to return to Slave Lake and said they Know why we did not consent that they should go[.] Arranged Laviollette to Guide them to Lac Claire[.]

Tuesday 8th[.] About 10 OClock this morning Messrs Thomson and Wentzel Set Out in a light Canoe for Grand Marrais[.] Mr Thomson goes to the Rocky Mountain giving all the advice and assistance he can to the Gentlemen acting for this Company as he goes along[.] Mr Wentzel will remain where he was before and has Charles MacLeod to help him and Brousseault[.] The Men had for their Voyage to Grand Marrais 1½ Bull and the Gentleman as much Dried Meat as they Chose to take[.] La Viollette found it blew too Strong for Setting off for Lac Claire at the head of his Montagners[.] Desired him to inform St Germain of Perronne's illiberals abuse of him[.] My reason for So doing is to make Piché and Perronne hate one another as I am afraid that as the former being a little Crack brained & as variable as the wind may, by dint of presents and frequent interviews, allow himself be Debauched by the latter if not to engage at least to allow him Some advantages with regard to trade and perhaps instruct him in things that he ought to be Kept from Knowing[.] I do not wish to pry into Perronne's Schemes before they are put into execution – it will then be sufficient time to Know and to disconcert his most Complicated Ones[.]

Wednesday 9th[.] La Viollette went off for Lac Claire[.] St Germain arrived with two Crees who brought 16 skins worth of fresh Meat[.] Gave them a measure rum each gratis and the usual ammn at Departure[.] St Germain made Perronne serrez La Queue[.] The Potty at Mama Oui Ca[t]ch nothing any more than they do here[.] St Germain told me that one of their men
