Meat for himself arrived[.] Gave each of them a Dram and fish & a foot Tobacco each to the two former[.]

Thursday 2nd[.] This Morning Marlin sent the English Chiefs for Ammn Tobacco Combs & Vermillion[.] Sent him 2 Measures Amm: ½ fath Tobacco, 1 Comb and a little Vermillion mixt with flour[.] They arrived soon after in great pomp – in all 20 Men the Little Bird and his followers having Joined them since the 27th Ulto – when there number was 14[.] After they paid the most of their Credits amounting to 1101 Skins – Marlin was Cloathe[d.] Gave him, the Little Bird, Dillo's Son, the old white fish & the English Chiefs Byr to Drink and Smoke with their Dependents 1 fathm Tobacco and the remainder of a Keg of mixt rum out of which all the expences in this article were taken since last fall to this date[.] It wanted 5½ Inches of being full yet the Montagners believed that it did not want half an Inch & they seemed quite happy with their good Luck[.] Had this present been given to these five great Men separately it would not have appear’d half so much nor have been enough to Content them[.] Several Harangues suitable to the Occasion were made on both sides and the New Chief in his Laced Coat with his supposed Large Keg at his Tail stalked along to his Lodge just an hour after Sun Set[.] He made many Ceremonies before he accepted of the Laced Coat[.] He wished to have a red great Coat, short breeches & Cotton stockings like the English Chief Some years ago at the old fort[.] He would not be a petty Chief – he aspired to be raised from nothing to the highest pitch of Glory which a Montagner Could possibly be raised to[.] In short his head was already so intoxicated with his Change of Fortune that he did not know which end of him stood uppermost, Whether he stood or sat, walked or flew, was a Man or a beast or whether he was not a mixture of both[.]

Friday 3rd[.] Traded last night and this morning for Rum 22 skins of Grease, 16 Do Beaver Tails, 7 Do fresh Meat, 16 Do in furs, 2 Orignal skins, & 1 Lodge of 5 skins[.] Gave the old white fish the value of 30 skins for nothing[.] He went off for his Lands exceedingly well pleased – & promised to be back about the Middle of Next winter with his Credits[.] I must remark here that in the Drinking Match last night not a single Drop of rum was given to any Indian Gratis[.] The Indian Called the Callumet and 4 more Montagners arrived and paid 230 Skins Credits[.] Sent four Men for the Canoe wood[.]

Saturday 4th[.] To shew of what Consequence it is to please the Little Bird and his four Sons I must tell in this place that they brought here this spring 340 Skins all Large Br Skins between them – and Complain much that they have not brought enough owing to their being strangers and did not Know last fall when to go & trench[.] These Indians deserve a little attention[.] The Men who went for the Canoe wood returned[.] Fine Day[.] The Snow melts very fast[.]
