gave them Credits & Gratuities tho' Le fountaine told him they were just from here[.] By his a/ct they were Drunk there[.]

Tuesday 7th[.] [A]n assinib. came for Tobacco for the frere du Chienfou[.]

Wednesday 8th[.] Chien fou's brother &c arrived & made the following presents amongst them vizt 7 wolves, 24 ps Dried Meat & 7 Bladds Grease – gave them in return 7 Galls Rum[.]

Thursday 9th[.] Two young men came from La Graines for Tobacco, he is coming in to day[.] Three young men of the Gens des filles arrived for Tobacco they are not to be in this fortnight[.] La Graine & suite came in paid their Credits made their presents got the returns & got Drunk[.]

Friday 10th[.] The frere du Chienfou went off[.] [A]n Assinibouan woman was deliverd of her Child in the House & had no other Screen but her Husband's Buffalo Robe to keep her from view along the cheek or Jambage of the Chinmey while in labor, which did not last above a quarter of an hour[.] She was trading out in the cold air and doing the other painfull drudgeries of her station an hour after, with her first tender infant on her back, same as if nothing had happen'd[.]

Saturday 11th[.] La Graine and suite went off. Tied up 3½ bales wolves and a Bale of peltries[.] Reckonned up by Mr Robt Grants Journal the number Bales he had got at the close of January '93 which I found to be 50½ of all sorts; about 76 packs[.] A young assinibn came in & made a present of 30 ps meat[.] Gave him 3 Galls Rum[.]

Sunday 12th[.] Severe weather & Strong winds these five last days[.] 13th[.] [N]othing[.]

Tuesday 14th[.] Le pere du Grimaceu sent two young men to the Fort to let us know that his Son was dead, and to get a drop to cheer his spirits on the mourfull occasion[.] Sent him a Gall. Rum[.] Les yeux Jeanne Senr, La Grûe Blanche, and anothe old chief came in[.] The former made a present of 35 ps meat and Grease, La Grûe Blanche one of 20 ps meat[.] Gave the former ½ a keg and the latter 3 Galls[.] They went off next day – and I cut 20 sacks or Taureaux to put Pimican in & gave them to Minie to sew[.]

Thursday 16th[.] Ante Azure & Ls Gadorei came from the Forks for Goods[.]

Friday 17th[.] Antoine Azure exchanged with Ante Fontaine who went to the Forks in his Stead[.]

Saturday 18th[.] The fifteen men from sent to the Pine fort returnd here with, 4 Rolls Brazil Tobacco, 3 Rolls Spencers Twist, 1 keg Powder, 3 Sacks Ball, 2 Bales Goods, 3 kegs HWines, 8lbs vermillion, 6 Bunches blue Beads, 3 Laced Capots, 4 Capots 4 Ells, 2 Do 3½, 1 Do 3 Ells & 3 Blkts. 2½ pts[.] Gave Minie 40 more Taureaux to Sew after I had Cut them[.]

Sunday 19th[.] Three men came forrom Mr Grants, with a letter, for goods[.]

Monday 20th[.] Lent the Michinaway du Chien fou an old Gun[.]

Tuesday 21st[.] Fine weather[.] The Hunter removed from the Fort en Chasse[.]

Wednesday 22nd[.] Sent off 8 men for Mr Grants with Goods – & sent Methode to the Hunters to Secure the meat[.]

Thursday 23rd[.] Chamard who came yesterday from the Forks for Goods returnd home[.]

Friday 24th[.] Shishikoé came to the Fort & relates that Monkoutassinan or (Le tailleur de Balle) was Shot dead by
