Letter from Wilder Penfield to Edward Archibald, February 24, 1928.
Date:
1928-02-24
Description:
This is a typewritten letter from Wilder Penfield to Edward Archibald dated 24 February 1926. In the letter Dr. Penfield states that Dr. William Vernon Cone had not yet decided to come to Montreal, and that Dr. Cone should be told of any potential obstacles to success in establishing a neurosurgical and research department in the Royal Victoria Hospital before he dismisses all other available opportunities. Dr. Penfield also suggests that Dr. Cone might be further encouraged if his potential salary was raised, as had been suggested in an earlier letter by Dr. Archibald. He then discusses his travel plans and logistics before moving to Montreal. This includes a trip around the United States to view the practices and equipment of various noted neurosurgeons including Drs. Harvey Cushing and Walter Dandy. He also discusses his voyage to Germany, details about his salary and living expenses, as well as when he will be arriving in Montreal in September.
