Letter from Wilder Penfield to Frank Cyril James, January 23, 1945.
A typewritten letter from Dr. Wilder Penfield to Dr. Frank Cyril James, McGill University’s Principal and Vice Chancellor. In the letter Dr. Penfield indicates that he has attached notes made by Miss Eileen Flanagan, the Montreal Neurological Institute’s Nursing Supervisor, concerning the list of the furniture and equipment that the Department of National Defence was willing to provide for the institute’s proposed Military Annex. Dr. Penfield also discusses the cost of the Annex, stating that he believes it best to be "realistic in regard to what the cost will be,” suggesting that the proposed number of beds be reduced and that the military be charged for the Annex’s lighting, heating, and electricity costs. He believes this to be a better arrangement than the proposed scheme of having the institute cover such costs and the military pay for the services of the Annex’s anaesthetist. The letter is dated January 23, 1945.
