Letter from Wilder Penfield to Frank Cyril James, September 12, 1944.
This is a typewritten letter from Dr. Wilder Penfield to Dr. Frank Cyril James, McGill University’s Principal and Vice Chancellor. In the letter Dr. Penfield details the costs of alterations which need to be made to the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) in order to accommodate the proposed increase in the number of military casualties cared for at the MNI. While attempting to find cost savings, Dr. Penfield admits that the costs will likely be higher than had previously been estimated if the institute hopes to maintain its current standard of patient care and medical facilities. In offering details about the required alterations, Dr. Penfield makes suggestions about how some of the costs might be offset by funds obtained from both the military and private donors. The letter is dated September 12, 1944.
