Date:
1944-08-04
Description:
This is a typewritten letter from Dr. Wilder Penfield to General Ernest James Renaud. In the letter, which follows a luncheon discussion between Dr. Penfield and General Renaud, Penfield details a number of items needed by the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) in order for the institute to expand and begin admitting increased numbers of military service members. He also writes that, should the military erect a new addition to the MNI to handle large numbers of casualties, the items required will be needed all the more urgently. Amongst the items required are surgical equipment, an X-Ray unit and supporting equipment, and an electroencephalogramphic “brain wave” machine. Dr. Penfield states that he will send another list of additional required items as soon as it has been formulated. He concludes the letter with a postscript in which he writes that it is his understanding that this letter will be forwarded to the Deputy Minister of National Defence, and he thanks General Renaud for a pleasant lunch. The letter is dated August 4, 1944.
