Of the Lesser species or Fur Kind, the Bear (black and grisled) the latter inhabits the Rocky Mountain or there abouts only, and apparently not so ferocious as those in Peace River: Beaver, Otter, Lynx, Picheux, Martin, Mink, Ermine, Wolverine, Muskrat and Wolf &c. The Natives kill the most part of the Species by running them with the assistance of dogs, until fatigued, and afterwards make use of Bow and arrows, or of Guns; they sometimes entangle these animals in snares made of green cords. They kill the Beaver and Wolverines for the most part with traps, and the others with snares.
