Thursday 26^th March 1801. Not very warm, notwithstanding, a great part of the late Snow melted[.] Falcon's brother in law went off with a few Simples for his father's leg, one of his brothers who passed the winter at M^r Perigne's fort came here late in the evening, he brought us neither Furs, Provisions, or news[.] The People were busied putting up the Ice House, the two men finished sawing the Batteau wood as did the black Smith the nails; rained a little this evening.

Friday 27^th[.] A little Snow fell early this morning[.] [T]he men put up the Ice House, the others of them are working at the Batteau wood. Cut lip's widow came here late in the evening from M^r Perigne's[.] She tells that the Ice is mostly all gone in Swan River[.] Joseph Fallardeau a Free Man came here from Riviere Qui Appelle, he brought me a letter from M^r M^cDonell dated the 18^th Ins^t wherein he tells me he expects. I will Shall send him a bag of balls P^r Fallardeau who intends making a Skin Canoe to drift down with the Ice in hopes of being able to Kill a few Beaver, by the way, Demarrais & Plante very little better[.]

Saturday 28^th[.] Cold, clear day, the people at their wonted occupations[.] Two Indians came here all the way from the spunk Hills with 6 Buffaloe Robes, only, one a Cree the other an Assinibonan, they slept 2 nights on the road[.] Falcon's brother in law went off to See his Father, to whom I Sent a little healing plaister for his bit leg.

Sunday 29^th[.] Cold, & snowing[.] The Indians traded their robes for Tobacco[.] Bellile arrived from M^r Perigne's a horse back on old Le Fevre's Horse[.] Cleared up in the evening but continues still cold. Cadotte came home & Forsier with 53 Plus of La Freniers[.]

Monday 30^th[.] The Indians went away[.] I sent a bit of Tob^co For the Crapaud by the Batard Anglois to invite him to come to the House, he has not been oppenly at any of our Forts since he killed B^te La France four years ago at Fort des Prairies, he may perhaps be led by a fatall security to come to see me which I very ernestly wish, he has been with that band of Indians most part of the winter. Snowed constantly from ten oClock A.M. untill the evening whatn it ceased & the weather became much colder. I spoke to B^te Roy the Sauteau interpreter to pass the Summer at some of the Posts of this department, for as he is free during the Summer season he certainly when on the road gives all information in his power to the XY faction in return for a glass of Shrub or a drink of Grog, he consented to what I proposed[.]

Teusday 31^st[.] A Very cold day Snowing a little[.] Carron, Demarrais & my Servant Plante are very unwell[,] I gave the first a vomite & the later a doze of physic. Dauphiné mended the Fort gates today[.]
