This fine Island is divided among a number of petty Seigneurs most of them illiterate Habitants. One of these Bumpkins having presented himself some years ago to be elected as member for this County could find nothing else to recommend himself to the Electors but that he raised the greatest quantity of the best pease of all the Habitants on the Island.

At St Joachin the Parish before we come to Cap Tourment the Priests of the Quebec Seminary to whom this Parish belong have a Country seat to which they retire with all the Students for a month during the Vacation[.] This is a great place for wild Geese in the spring & fall – but the Bucks of Quebec, whenever they stray this way in search of amusement up to the hips in mud, prefer snipe shooting which is quite fashionable[.] It would look vulgar to fire a random shot at a Goose.
