The next day however they discovered their mistake and flocked round us with as much curiosity as might be shown by the Inhabitants of Nootka Sound on their first seeing White people. They were very civil and pressed us much to accompany them to their houses but as we entertained nearly the same opinion of them which they did of the Micmacs we did not like to leave our Baggage[.] I could not however resist the Importunities of a young man who on the part of his father had come the distance of a league to invite me to dinner[.] But at this Entertainment I saw nothing worth recording here[.]

We repaid all the Hospitality shewn us on this Island with Drams and sealskin Blagues which were thankfully accepted and at last drew more Customers to our Standard than we had wherewithal to satisfy[.]

Orleans is eight leagues in length. The soil being dry & sandy Pease and potatoes grow best on it[.] The Sloping green appearance of the fields, which are here and there interspersed with tufts of wood, with the houses white make them look like so many Country seats and very beautiful[.]
