there before me I observed to the chief that they and I having different objects in view could not agree together[.] He offered to send them away – but Knowing that his lodge was not of the best kind I thought it advisable to thank him and look out for other quarters[.] I therefore went directly to my old Land Lord[.] He cheerfully received me and gave me the as a gratification of gave me a horse to the Bargain[.] All the Indians were happy to see me among them and I had enjoyed the preference in trade[.]

About this time the Mississouri Indians to the number of three hundred and fifty warriors under the conduct of the False Horn a chief went towards the Sioux Country[.] After an absence of four days the party returned[.] They had met the enemy had given him battle and had fought for a whole day & they brought a trophy of seven scalps that But they had Killed many men of the enemy[.] But […] one of them Their party they had one Killed and seven wounded of their own people[.]

Upon this return of the war party occasion the Indians went through the usual Ceremony of singing and dancing through round the village with the new scalps – the Immediate relations of the unfortunate warrior did not join this rejoicing and the father and mother their parents they turned threw all their affects out of doors – where they were abandoned for the use of whomever those that chose to carry them away[.]

Next day the people of our village went down to dance lodge […] at the Mandane's[.] This dance was entirely left to the Young women of the different villages. Dressed in their best leather smocks and finest ornaments – they went rounded and the village singing and dancing the praise of the Young Warriors and receiving presents which
