MFTP #0010 there before me I observed to the chief that they and I having different view could not agree together[.] He offered to send them away – but Knowing that his lodge was not of the best I thought it advisable to thank him and look out for other quarters[.] I therefore went directly to my old Land Lord[.] He cheerfully received me and gratification a horse to the Bargain[.] All the Indians were happy to see me among them and I the preference in trade[.] About this time the Mississouri Indians to the number of three hundred and fifty warriors under the conduct of the False Horn a chief went towards the Sioux Country[.] After an absence of four days the party returned[.] They had met the enemy given him battle fought for a whole day & brought a trophy of seven scalps they Killed many of the enemy[.] Killed and seven wounded [.] Upon this the Indians went through the usual Ceremony of singing and dancing the village with the scalps – the Immediate relations of the unfortunate warrior did not join all their affects out of doors – Next day the people of our village went down the Mandane's[.] This dance was entirely left to the Young women of the different villages.
