MFTP #0010 No 1 Journal of a third to the Mississouri by Mr Chas McKenzie Fall 1805 Mr Rocheblave who succeeded Mr Chaboillez in the Red River Department as Manager of the Companys concerns did not approve of the Mississouri Trade[.] But from measure already taken he was under the necessity of continuing it for Another Season and I was appointed to conduct affairs in that quarter[.] On the 18th Novr to our great joy my worthy friend Mr La Roque and his party made their appearance from visit to the Rocky Mountains. It is not necessary for me to give any of particulars of this journey. As kept a Journal I shall merely observe that he was disappointed, suffered great hardships, and had taken no less than thirty six days on his way back to our Establishments[.] He a time with me at Montagne a la Bosse I had in charge I accompanied him to Head quarters – where Mr Rocheblave relieved of much anxiety, & received him with great Kindness[.] The presence of Mr La Rocque in the Department made mine less necessary – matters were prepared and I took my departure the 24th Novr upon my third trading to the Mississouri[.] I had three men and six horses with an assortment of proper goods for the trade[.] But no less than five other traders forming as many different Concerns had taken the lead[.] When I arrived at the Mississouri my friend the Borgne received me with open arms and conducted me to his Lodge.
