bore a hole at each shoulder blade through which he passed a pin of hard wood about four Inches long by half an Inch in thickness. To this pin he fastened a cord of eight yards in length. aAt the end of this cord were tyied seven Bulls heads or more according to the quality of the warrior. Such as had Killed […] some of the enemy and had taken scalps had a mans scull tieed on each side of his breast and a scalp fastened a little below the eyes;– and had with a Cane in the right hand to which also was fastened a scalp. But such as were had been less successful in war were not distinguished with so many ornaments. as their more Lucky brothers. They had not the honour of training so many Bulls heads and their Canes had in lieu of Scalps had only eagle tails fixed upon them. These young men as warriors were entirely naked;– abating a Coat of white paint which they had given their bodies. After the old man havingd finished this this first part of the business the young warriors started up and moved forward with them having equipage – but the many baggage of heads having many horns which trained behind them, having many horns became often entangled and made their progress slow and painful[.] One man however who was more loaded than any of the others rushed through the Crowd and upsetting and surmounting every thing that came in happened to be in his way and soon gained his destination – viz the great lodge He where he was received by a multitude of Spectators with Shouts of applause[.] The others would fain have followed the example – but their hearts failed them and they leaned often upon their Canes[.] In measure In measure as the warriors arrived at the Lodge all the heads were thrown over a high beam and the […] owner by which and their weight of serving as a counterpoise raised the owners bearers from the ground; and in this position as more like culprits on gibbets they remained suspended by the pins through the shoulders.
