Cochran, Andrew William. Eight letters to Roderick Mackenzie, 1823-1837. An electronic transcription. MFTP #0004

public service; but I confess I feel more for his family, & for the discredit brought on the Public Service, and on on the Legislative C[oun]cil than for the individual himself[.]

I have not lately heard from Lord Dalhousie; for, in fact considering his failing & precarious state of health I do not trouble him with letters, since he might in his kindness think it necessary to take the painful trouble of answering them[.] But I have lately heard of him through a letter of Lady D. and another of Mr Maule. Both speak of him as uncommonly well, and in good spirits[.] Mr Bell’s letter was of the 27 Decr at which time Lord D: was a little excited by the prospect of two pleasing events, — the birth of a grand-child, and the marriage of his ward Miss Hathorn, whom you may remember in this country in 1821-2-3 — a very pretty & pleasing young girl[.] She is to be married to a gentleman of fortune in Fife; & the ceremony was to be at Dalhousie Castle.

I have written to the length of my letter[.] With best wishes for your health & happiness

I am ever My Dear Sir

Very Sincerely your's

AW Cochran
