Women played an important part in the post-Revolutionary process of Soviet industrialization. Their presence in predominantly male domains is strongly reflected in the publishing output of Soviet children's books. Titles such as Sakovskaia's Mamin most (Mommy's bridge, 1933) depict women's involvement in every aspect of construction - as lathe operators, metal workers, engineers, crane operators and builders. The cover of Grimailo's book Na tsigelni (In the Brick Factory, 1931) shows a barefoot woman lifting heavy bricks against the background of newly built walls and apartment houses. In a more traditional mode, a paper cut-out instruction book by Iudin and Ermolaeva, Iz bumagi bez kleia ( Made of paper without glue,1931) portrays on its cover a woman in the folk tradition of Russian 'luboks' pushing a wheelbarrow. The story of a gigantic cooking factory is told in Gabbe's and Zadunaiskaia's Povar na ves gorod ( A cook for the whole city, 1934). Women's right to education informed the book Iki Okurs (1935) by Aman Kekilov, published in Turkmenistan.
