This is a typewritten letter from Wilder Penfield to Edward Archibald. In the letter Dr. Penfield shares his thoughts about Dr. Archibald’s offer of a position at McGill and the Royal Victoria Hospital as both a neurosurgeon and neurological researcher. Recognizing a need for specialization in both neurosurgery and neurological research in Canada, Dr. Penfield shares his views on the need to combine the two, as well as the suitability of Montreal as a location for such a neuro-surgical unit. Dr. Penfield includes a brief outline of the clinic, surgical, laboratory, and personnel requirements that such a unit would need. He also outlines the patient-load and salary he would require in Montreal to justify leaving his position in New York to take up the proposed post. The letter is dated July 17, 1927.
