Description:
This is a handwritten note from Madeleine E. Ottmann to Wilder Penfield. Mrs. Ottmann explains that two cheques are enclosed with the note, one for payment of the outstanding fees for her son’s medical care, and one as a ten thousand dollar donation toward’s Dr. Penfield’s research on epilepsy. She thanks Dr. Penfield for his work in this field and updates him about her son's progress. The note is dated May 21, 1929.

Transcription of the note reads: "Neurological Dept. May 21. 1929. Dear Penfield. I enclose herewith four checks. One for $1100 in payment of your bill and one for $10,000 which represents my contribution toward your research work in epilepsy. I do so want to help a bit and I hope that you will be able to buy more keys. William is well & happy and is in Rye, Newark at the Westchester Biltune Club. I have had a complete collapse & have become miserable. I'm feeling much better and hope to join William some time next week after my 4th intravenous injection. I have a (?) (?) and after violet light treatment daily. My treatment must be continued throughout the summer. We will remain at the club in Rye until I have plans for the summer. Hoping that you, your dear wife and little one are well and with all good wishes for you & yours. Most sincerely, Madeleine E. Ottman. P.S. Wish you great success in your research work. Hope others will give financial aid. Thank you again for all your kindness (to us). William seems better than he has been in years. P.S. Dear Dr. Penfield, Please forgive state of letter.
