The Edwin Smith Papyrus.
The Edwin Smith Papyrus.
This is a one page handwritten note regarding the Edwin Smith Papyrus, the oldest known surgical treatise concerning trauma. Apart from a hand written note which reads “The Edwin Smith Papyrus, Surgical Treatise,” the page also contains what appears to be a rubbing of four Egyptian hieroglyphic characters in the centre of the page. The four characters are the hieroglyphic characters for “brain,” and, as indicated by the note further down the page, are found on plate 11a of the Edwin Smith Papyrus.
