Letter from Wilder Penfield to Charles Martin, January 14, 1928.
Date:
1928-01-14
Description:
Typewritten letter from Wilder Penfield to C."H." [F] Martin, of McGill University Faculty of Medicine. Penfield opens the letter thanking Martin for his reassurances regarding concerns raised by Penfield on his visit to Montreal [see records 9483 and 9482]. Penfield discusses the matter of work spaces, acknowledging Dr. Meskins' offer of three rooms as the turning point of his decision to come to Montreal. Penfield states that more money in the budget is needed to equip the laboratory with the best tools and hire staff. Penfield also expresses interest in the possibility of establishing an elaborate animal testing facility. He asks Martin to send him a letter that affirms the (financial) terms of his appointment in Montreal. Penfield states he is still deciding whether he will come to Montreal in March or September. He closes the letter expressing his hope of being able to open a clinic at McGill that matches Martin's/the Faculty of Medicine's vision and thanks Mrs. Martin for her hospitality during their visit.

Notes:
There is a check mark to the right of the third paragraph on page one.

The word "each" is written on the last line of the fourth paragraph and the crossed out. "Each" is written again to the right of the fourth paragraph with a arrow indicating it should be inserted in two places.

On the second page, toward the bottom of the letter, there is a drawing/doodle of what appears to be two different types of cells (neurons?).
