Wilder Penfield with Bicycle at Lambert Arms, photograph.
A black and white photograph of Wilder Penfield standing with two bicycles. The page’s caption suggests that the image concern Dr. Penfield’s regular commute, by bicycle, from Oxford to London during August and September, 1920. In addition, the photograph’s caption indicates that Dr. Penfield is standing in front of the Lambert Arms in the village of Aston Rowant, sixteen miles from Oxford. As the caption also indicates, the Lambert Arms was Dr. and Mrs. Penfield’s “trysting place,” or where they would part or meet during Dr. Penfield’s bicycle trips into London and his work at the National Hospital in Queen Square. The image is the first photograph from page 32 of the 1919 - 1927 photo album compiled by Wilder Penfield.
