This is a typewritten letter from Brooke Claxton to Wilder Penfield. In the letter, Claxton thanks Penfield for his congratulatory note upon his assignment to a new position within the federal cabinet following a cabinet shuffle. (Claxton had been the minister of National Health and Welfare from 1944, but was made Minister of National Defence in 1946.) Claxton then discusses his inability to attend the Military Annex handing-over ceremony and gives the administrative reasons for his absence. He concludes by wishing Penfield a good Christmas. The letter is dated December 27, 1946.
