[W]hat I relate here, I had the mortification to witness during my residence here. They Pillage and elope with one another's women often and it appears to me that in many other respects, the strongest Party do not scruple the means, provided the object of their desires can be obtained. During a Residence here of almost two years I have not been able to discover any seeds of Religion amongst them and they appear very little tinctured with superstition, or at least it makes little impression upon them. They have little variety of amusements and upon the whole appear to me to be of a very cloudy disposition. Their principal occupation is fishing at which they excel as much as they are defective in the pursuit of the chace.
