Keith, George. An Account of Mackenzie River (Letters to Roderick Mackenzie), 1807-1817. An electronic transcription. MFTP #0033 53 No. 14 Bear Lake, McKenzie’s River Dept. 5th Jany 1812. Roderic McKenzie Esq. Dear Sir, I was duly favourd with the receipt, last Fall, of your agreeable and obliging letter of the 8th June last; and am extremely sorry that my adverse fortune this Year has scarcely afforded me the means, opportunities and leisure requisite of endeavouring to give you some account of this Latitude and its inhabitants, although few of the latter have favoured me with a visit; and if I am to judge of the Piece by the sample, I am afraid my communication upon their Character and Habits will do very little honour to human nature. This reason, I am persuaded, will have some weight with you in excusing me for the disappointment. [53] L E G E N D : |
