July 17th. Extreme sultry … July … We find the time tedious … my country will … in defiance of all law and treated as the vilest of criminals. July 20th. We are kept in complete ignorance of our destination. July 21t. We are really miserable. 22d Our provisions not eatable, and we are suffocated with heat and can scarce get water to drink. July 23d.
