Description:

Bust-length portrait of Napoleon, looking over his shoulder. Over his military uniform decorated with the Legion of Honour, he wears a mantle embroidered with bees. In his right hand he holds an eagle-headed staff. We wears a crown made of olive branches, symbolic of peace. This is based on Gros's portrait of Napoleon on the Bridge at Arcole, though many details have been changed: hair, crown, uniform, mantle, staff.
