Description:

Bust-length portrait of Napoleon, in a circular border decorated with the Ouroboros, a snake eating its tail, symbolising eternity. He is represented here in his 'petit costume', which he wore for the Coronation as King of Italy in Milan, and is crowned with the Iron Crown of Lombardy. This portrait is inspired from the Appiani original, showing Napoleon crowned as King of Italy, in which the Emperor wears the golden laurel wreath designed by Biennais. In both, Napoleon wears the cordon and necklace of the Legion of Honour. Below, an 'N' inscribed within an emblazoned star serves as title.
