Description:

Napoleon and his family crowd together in a small boat as it arrives at the docks in the port of Marseilles. They are refugees from Corsica. Napoleon's father Charles, has died. The young Napoleon, in military uniform, is seated at the stern, controlling the tiller. He is now in charge of his mother and his siblings. Letizia, standing, comforts two of her daughters (Caroline and Pauline), Elisa stands behind her. On the other side of her Joseph, Louis, and Jerome. The head of the family is now obviously Napoleon, even though he has an older brother.
