Description:

Illustrating Napoleon's generosity and closeness to the people: when you sow on the ground, you reap; when you sow on the marble of the palace, all you do is lose. According to Chambure's account, Napoleon and Marie-Louise sat down for an impromptu meal with the farmer, who was too shy and awe-stricken at first to speak. After a few glasses of wine, however, he answered the Emperor's questions about his family, his farm, the changes he would like to make. Napoleon was happy to give him what he needed to have his dreams realised.
