He was born at Pau in Bearn, the 26th of Jany 1764. The sudden || rise of this distinguished man to the supreme government of a king- || dom, of which he was not a native, is the more singular, he being the || only one of the pupils of Napoleon who has preserved the rank of || a sovereign and the estimation of the allied monarchs. On the death || of Charles 13th the crown prince was elevated to the throne of Sweden || Feby 5th 1818.
