Description:
The French army enters victorious by the triumphal arch in Milan, known as "La Porte Romaine", inscribed: "ALLA VALOROSA ARMATA FRANCESE". The local inhabitants greet them enthusiastically, handing the French troops olive branches, and hoisting the French tricolor on a staff topped with a phrygian bonnet. Napoleon is mounted on a dark horse in the centre of the picture.
