Napoleon Bonaparte First Consul of the French Republic.

BUONAPARTE || Eerste Consul der Fransche Republick.

Description:
Waist-length portrait of Napoleon in oval frame topped with oak leaves. The title is inscribed on a plaque with laurel decorations below. He wears long hair, which is uncharacteristic for the Consular period. Strikingly similar to the Cossia portraits (eg 8o N I 20) but for the Consular uniform and the fact he is looking at the viewer. Also reminiscent of the LeDru portraits.
