Description:

The young Eugène de Beauharnais has gone to General Bonaparte's quarters to reclaim the sword that belonged to his father. Napoleon in his Memoirs written from Saint Helena remembers that it is through this occasion that he met Josephine. This incident took place on 9 October 1795, a few days after the repression of the royalists, at a time when the young Bonaparte's star was rising. Napoleon and Josephine were married in March of the next year.
