A bonfire at Métis-sur-Mer, Quebec in 1900, held by the Savage family, who are likely included amongst the group of people in the photograph. At the top of the pile is an effigy of Paul Kruger, President of the South African Republic. Canada assisted Britain in fighting the South African Boers from 1899 until 1902.
