Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895) was a pioneering English biologist, professor, surgeon, and naturalist best known for his support of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. In 1863, he published his own book on evolution, "Evidence as to Man's Place in Nature".
Late nineteenth-century photoxylograph, or wood engraving from a photograph, hand-coloured. Printed text on the verso of the paper indicates that the image appeared in a publication.
