Robert Wilhelm Bunsen (1811-1899) was a German chemist, physicist and professor who served on the faculties of several universities, and was at Heidelberg from 1852 to 1889. With his laboratory assistant, Peter Desaga, he developed the Bunsen burner, an improvement on the laboratory burners then in use.
