Andrew Boorde (ca. 1490-1549) was an English physician and traveller, who was physician to King Henry VII.
Print was published in "The Publications of the Antiquarian Etching Club" plate 4, vol. 5 (London: 1853). The descriptive caption in the publication provides the following information: "From a woodcut in his 'Introduction of Knowledge,' 1542. Hearne says, 'that the Doctor was in the habit of frequenting markets and fairs, and making thereat humourous and witty speeches; and it was from this method of using such speeches, that in after times those that imitated the like humourous, jocose language, were styled 'Merry Andrews' - a term much in vogue on our stages.'"
