Engraving of "St. Joseph with Infant Christ in his Arms" by James Walker.
Engraving of "St. Joseph with Infant Christ in his Arms", 1792.
The captions are in Russian and English. James Walker, an accomplished English engraver invited to Russia by Catherine the Great, served the Russian court from 1784 to 1802. Walker's print is a striking version of Reni's St. Joseph with Infant Christ in his Arms (1620s) now in The Hermitage. This engraving does not appear in the standard list of Walker's work.
