Organizing children into the young pioneer detachments was one of the defining features of life in the Soviet Union. Both book and periodical publishing reflected the importance allotted to forming communist youth in the new state. Thus, the accordion booklet "Pioneria" (1925) is destined for small children and shows young pioneers at work and at play. Periodicals, such as Kolkhoznye Rebiata (Children of the kolkhoz, nos.11-12, 1932) and Pioneriia (no.4, 1935) proselytized the new regime through illustrated articles, children's stories and photography. Books such as Marshak's Otriad (Detachment, 1933) showed young pioneers enjoying themselves in a summer camp. Politschuk's Prigoda (A Happening, 1931) uses a combination of an imaginative typography, photography and two-colour chromo-lithographed illustrations to depict the young pioneers in a factory. Neverov's Pechik achosem valli is an example of a translation of the original Russian text into Chuvash, one of the Tartar-related languages of Eastern Russia.
