Letter from Charles F. Martin to Wilder Penfield, May 14, 1931.
Description:
This is a typewritten letter dated May 14, 1931 from Dr. Charles F. Martin, Dean of McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine, to Dr. Wilder Penfield. In the letter Dr. Martin responds to Dr. Penfield’s request that the monkeys housed at the Royal Victoria Hospital’s Animal House receive additional care and be fed more often. Dr. Penfield is concerned that, because of their existing level of care, many of the monkeys were dying unnecessarily from tuberculosis. In his response, Dr. Martin explains that the faculty’s budget will not allow for another technician to be hired, as Dr. Penfield had suggested, to give the additional care. Rather, Dr. Martin states that he will speak to those in charge of the Animal House about how the care of the monkeys could be improved.
