The Collection has 2 copies. One copy has the author's presentation inscription on the cover: "To the Dominion Gallery, Montreal, with compliments, Marius Barbeau". The other copy is the author's signed presentation copy to Arthur Lismer, 1945. That copy also has a ms. inscription on the cover: "Haida"; and another on p. 59: "Stern". Max Stern had not been in Canada long before he began discovering the art of Canada's indigenous people. This study of Haida folklore and art was presented to the Dominion Gallery by the author.
