Description
Held from 2 May to 15 June 1967 and coinciding with the Canadian Centennial and Expo 67, the World's Fair in Montreal, this important exhibit on the 50th anniversary of the artist's death organized in collaboration with Musée Rodin, Paris, displayed 74 sculptures. On this occasion, Stern bought Jean d'Aire (1890) from Rodin's Burghers of Calais group and installed it in front of the Dominion Gallery on Sherbrooke St. There it stood with a figure by Henry Moore for many years until he donated both to the Musée d'art contemporain in Montreal in 1982. This exhibition and sales catalogue includes a "Préface" in French by Cécile Goldscheider and an "Introduction" in English perhaps by Dr. Max Stern. Copy 1 was rebound, preserving the original covers; it has a ms. inscription on the flyleaf and occasional margin annotations in pencil and the stamp of the Dominion Gallery.
