Description
Max Stern had become the Canadian agent for the sale of Rodin's sculptures from the Musée Rodin in Paris in the late 1950s just after the import tax on sculpture had been lifted. In this undated exhibition and sales catalogue, the introduction states: "Capitals define sculptures or models of works which are exhibited in the Dominion Gallery." The introduction might be by Max Stern; the texts are in French and English. The Collection has two copies, both listing prices and bearing inscriptions: one with "Max Stern" and the other "Dr. M. Stern" on the cover. Exhibitions of works by Rodin at the Dominion Gallery included: Rodin and Zadkine (1961); "75 Paintings and Sculptures by Great French Artists" (November-December 2, 1961), including works by Arp, Maurice Brianchon, Cesar, Hajdu, André Marchand, Roland Oudot, and Rodin; Rodin and Chadwick (1964); and the major Rodin exhibit (May 2-June 15, 1967; see below).
