| This fundamental study of art in Quebec provides an example of Max Stern's contribution to art scholarship and the dissemination of Quebec art: the Dominion Gallery is included in the list of lenders (provenance of illustrations). The book contains the author's signed presentation inscription to Max Stern, dated 1979, on the half-title. Handwritten inscriptions on the front flyleaf refer to illustrations of works owned by the Dominion Gallery; occasional caption annotations are in the text, sometimes indicating changes in ownership.
